Dashboard
Let's get started
Add your classes and pupils, then you're ready to enter scores. One person can add the whole school from a spreadsheet, or each class teacher can add their own class.

🔒 No surnames are ever stored – only first names and a surname initial.

🛝 Playground scores count just like PE scores. They must be timed with the skip-hop timer or a stopwatch and counted by an adult supervisor. Set Date taken to the day they skipped.

Classes & pupils
How would you like to add your pupils? Choose whichever suits your school – you can mix them.
Add pupils
For a new arrival or a pupil who was missed. 🔒 The surname is only used to pick the letter(s) shown – the full surname is never saved.
Or paste names from your register or a spreadsheet, one per line – Amy Smith, Smith, Amy and SMITH Amy all work.
🔒 We keep the first name and just enough of the surname to tell pupils apart – usually the first letter (Sam J.), more only if two pupils would look the same (Sam J. and Sam Jo.). The full surname is never saved, stored or sent.
If a pupil would like a skipping nickname, add it in brackets: Ben Taylor (Turbo). You can add or change nicknames later too.

Girl / boy, SEND and PP (pupil premium) under each name are optional. They are only used in your school’s School Games Mark report to show how these groups are taking part, and are never shown publicly or to your SGO by name.

How the league works
This page
It opens on your class – every pupil in order. Switch between Scores, Most improved and Most active, and This round, Term or Whole year. Choose any class from the list, or press Whole school to see every class and how the school is doing. The league buttons show how your school and classes compare with other schools.
Each week
- Put the skipping timer on the board. Every pupil skips for 30 seconds.
- Type the counts into Enter scores – a phone in the hall is fine. Pupils can have as many goes as you like; the best counts.
- Come back here and press 📺 Show to class.
Class tables
Classes only race the same year group. The class score is the average of the best 80% of the class. Pupils who haven't skipped count as 0, so getting everyone to have a go matters most.
School Cup
Each class's score is compared with the expected score for its year group (100 = on the expected standard). The School Index is the average across all your classes, so infant, junior and primary schools of any size compete fairly. There's also Most active school (the % of pupils who have skipped) and Most improved school (the rise in School Index since the last round or term).
Rounds, terms and the year
Each half term is a round. The Autumn, Spring and Summer leagues and the whole-year league are the average of their rounds – a round with no scores counts as 0. Champions are crowned when each one closes.
Bronze, Silver and Gold
Every pupil can earn Bronze, Silver (the expected standard for their year group) or Gold. See every pupil's band in School progress.
The leagues
- National
- Every school in the league.
- Active Partnership
- Your county-wide group of schools (once called the School Sport Partnership).
- SGO – School Games Organiser
- The schools in your local School Games area.
- Private league
- Schools you choose, joined with a code.
Questions
My class isn't in the table. It appears as soon as one pupil has a score this round.
"Not shown publicly". Your school admin has taken the school out of that league. You can still see where you'd place, but other schools show as "School not shown" – it works both ways, so schools that stay out keep their results private.
League settings
Choose which leagues your school takes part in. Classes are always compared year group by year group, using the class average of the best 80%.
🔒 Only your school admin can change these settings.
Your private leagues
League settings
Chosen by your school adminEvery class in your school is always in the league – these settings only choose which tables other schools see you in. Your own class and whole-school tables, School progress and your in-school awards work the same whatever you tick.
Your leagues
The leagues
- 📍 Your SGO areaThe schools under your local School Games Organiser – usually your town or district. The closest races.
- 🗺️ Your Active PartnershipThe larger, usually county-wide group of schools.
- 🇬🇧 NationalEvery school in the Virtual Skipping League across the UK.
- 🤝 Private leaguesSchools you choose – a cluster, a trust, or friends down the road. Only the schools in it can see its tables.
Classes only ever race the same year group, and the School Cup scores every class against the expected standard for its year group – so small, infant, junior and primary schools all compete fairly.
👀 What other schools can see
- Your school name, its School Cup place and Most active / Most improved places.
- Your class names (for example “Year 4 Oak”), each class’s average and place in its year group.
- Never pupils’ names. Your pupils only ever appear to other schools as “a pupil from your school”. Names, nicknames, bands and progress are only seen by your own staff.
🔒 Hiding your school works both ways
If you untick a league, other schools in it see your rows as “School not shown”. To keep it fair, you see theirs the same way – you still see your own places, scores and medals, just not the other schools’ names.
You can tick it again at any time and the names come back straight away.
🤝 Private leagues
- Start one and give it a name – you’ll get a join code.
- Send the code (there’s a ready-made invite message to copy) to the other schools’ admins.
- They tick Private League here and type the code. Their school joins straight away.
The school that set it up can rename it, remove a school, or make a new code (the old one stops working). Any school can leave whenever it likes.
❓ Good to know
- Only your school admin can change these settings. Other teachers see them but can’t change them.
- Your SGO area and Active Partnership are set from your school’s official details (its local authority and School Games area). If either is missing or wrong, email support@vsl.org.uk.
- You can also open these settings from League tables → ⚙ League settings at the bottom of any league.
